Parents complain over NII operation
JAKARTA: A group of six parents has filed a complaint with the
Jakarta Police over their children's involvement in a religious
congregation allegedly under the Indonesian Islamic State (NII)
movement.
A press statement from the center for victims of the movement
quoted the parents on Saturday as saying the group had
brainwashed their children into committing crimes through the
congregation.
The six parents -- Fauziah, Laurens, Imam Shalahudin, Ettyta
Ramadhani, Bisma Aditya and Chandra Rasad -- are from Jakarta and
neighboring areas.
They said the group had forced their children to collect
donations through criminal acts, such as theft, cheating and
blackmail.
The congregation also spread hatred and hostility against
state symbols and promoted an "antisocial attitude and
inclusivism", they said.
The parents added it considered people outside the group,
including themselves, to be infidels, thus permitting crimes
against them.
The government has outlawed the NII movement for justifying
violence in its fight for an Islamic state.
The parents demanded that the police arrest clandestine NII
activists and reveal their headquarters.--Antara
