Parangtritis Retribution Post Only Serves Buses, Cars and Motorcycles Charged at Beach Entrances

The Bantul Regency Tourism Office (Dispar) has announced that the main retribution collection post (TPR) on Jalan Parangtritis will now only serve buses. Retribution collection for motorcycles and private cars will take place at nine entry points to Pantai Parangtritis. This move is intended to end the controversy over charges being levied on motorists merely passing along Jalan Parangtritis and to maximise revenue collection. Monitoring at the TPR Parangtritis showed officers only stopping buses to collect retribution, while motorcycles and cars were allowed to pass freely. Instead, officers were stationed at beach access roads, such as the easternmost side, to collect retribution from motorcyclists and car drivers entering the beach area. Head of Bantul Tourism Office, Saryadi, stated the new policy for the eastern Southern Coast (Pansela) area is based on Bupati Decree No. 240 of 2026, which assigns the Parangtritis Village Government to collect business service retribution for recreational, tourism, and sports facilities from Parangtritis Beach to Depok Beach. He explained that the collection point has shifted from Jalan Parangtritis to the access lanes leading into the Parangtritis Beach area, though the main TPR remains functional for buses due to their inability to navigate the narrow lanes. Saryadi revealed there are nine entry points to Parangtritis Beach, with all collection duties now handled entirely by personnel from Parangtritis Village, although the revenue still goes to the Regency Government. Tourism Office staff have been withdrawn from the TPR, with some reassigned to offices, others deployed to bolster TPRs on the western coast, and some assisting cleaning crews. The relocation also responds to a warning from the Ministry of Public Works that the TPR’s location on a national road was inappropriate, as well as public complaints on social media and from the Gunungkidul regional government about tourists passing through being charged. Saryadi noted the new system eliminates excuses for avoiding payment, as the only direction from the access lanes is towards the beach. Retribution rates for the eastern Southern Coast area remain unchanged at Rp 15,000 per person, which allows access from Parangtritis to Parangkusumo and Depok with a single ticket, while a separate fee of Rp 5,000 per person per destination applies for beaches on the western coast from Samas to Pandansimo.
