ParagonCorp Advances Science-Based Beauty Research Through Multi-Omics Collaboration
The global beauty industry is increasingly moving towards the era of science-backed beauty, where product development is based on research and human biological characteristics. Responding to this trend, ParagonCorp, in collaboration with Corpora Science, is developing a multi-omics approach in beauty research. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a Cooperation Agreement to strengthen science-based beauty research in Indonesia. This partnership also continues ParagonCorp’s advanced research, which began in 2021 with genomic studies of Indonesian people’s skin. The results of that research became one of the foundations for ParagonCorp’s product innovation launched in 2024. Now, ParagonCorp is continuing its research by developing a multi-omics approach to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the various biological factors affecting skin condition. ParagonCorp CEO, Dr Sari Chairunnisa, stated that the company believes meaningful innovation is born from a strong scientific foundation. Therefore, the company continues to strengthen its research capacity through collaboration to encourage the emergence of science-based innovation in Indonesia. “For ParagonCorp, this collaboration is not merely the signing of an agreement, but a first step in building a stronger research ecosystem in Indonesia. We hope that more world-class research can emerge from Indonesia, starting from Yogyakarta. She further explained that this collaboration marks a milestone in building ParagonCorp’s long-term research foundation. The company views strengthening scientific capabilities as a continuous process so that every innovation has a comprehensive research basis relevant to the characteristics of Indonesian society. “The journey from genomics to multi-omics reminds us that building knowledge is never instant. Each stage of research is a foundation that allows us to understand humans more completely and deliver increasingly science-based innovations, making them more personalised, precise, and relevant for consumers,” she continued. Multi-omics is a research approach that combines various layers of biological information to understand the body’s condition more comprehensively. This approach includes data such as genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, and lipidomics, allowing researchers to see the interconnections between various biological processes occurring in the body. This approach is becoming increasingly relevant because skin condition is not only influenced by genetic factors. Sun exposure, tropical climate, environment, lifestyle, activity patterns, and various biological processes in the body all contribute to shaping each individual’s skin characteristics. Therefore, a more comprehensive understanding of Indonesian society becomes an important foundation for delivering innovations that are more relevant to consumer needs. Through this collaboration, ParagonCorp and Corpora Science will develop multi-omics-based research that connects various layers of biological data in stages. The collaboration also includes the utilisation of laboratory facilities, exchange of knowledge and expertise between researchers, development of research methodologies, and joint scientific publications. Through synergy between industry and research institutions, both parties hope to strengthen research capacity while encouraging the development of a science-based beauty research ecosystem in Indonesia. Director of Operations at Corpora Science, Saptogiri, said that research progress requires collaboration that brings together various disciplines and competencies. “Each layer of biological data provides different information. When these various pieces of information begin to be connected, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the biological processes taking place. Such capabilities cannot be built instantly, but through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and continuous development of research methods,” he said. In addition to strengthening research development, this collaboration is also expected to expand the national research ecosystem through increased human resource capacity, strengthened networks between industry and research institutions, and the production of scientific publications that can contribute to the advancement of science in Indonesia.
