Papua to receive 22,000 home renovations in 2026

Speaking in Jayapura on Tuesday, Karnavian said the program is part of government efforts to improve housing conditions in both urban and remote communities.

The initiative will cover areas across Papua, including border regions, coastal communities and cities.

Karnavian said he inspected renovation projects in the border village of Mosso on June 21 and in the urban area of Tanjung Ria on June 22, highlighting the program’s broad reach.

He said the central government is giving special attention to Papua’s housing needs because many homes remain unfit for habitation.

“The target for Papua has increased significantly. Previously, it was around 1,600 units; now about 22,000 houses will be renovated in 2026,” he said.

Karnavian added that the government is also implementing a separate housing renovation program for border regions.

Nationally, the border housing initiative aims to renovate 150,000 homes from Sabang to Merauke.

“We want people in border and urban areas to have decent, healthy and safe housing,” Karnavian said.

He said the program is expected to improve welfare, enhance residential environments and support healthier, more comfortable living conditions across Papua.
