Papua Sends 124 Students to Five Provinces Under ADEM Programme

The Papua Provincial Government, through its Education Office, has dispatched 124 indigenous junior high school graduates to continue their education at senior high and vocational schools through the Affirmation of Secondary Education (ADEM) programme in five provinces: Central Java, West Java, East Java, Banten, and Bali. Acting Regional Secretary of Papua Christian Sohilait stated in Jayapura on Monday that the ADEM programme represents the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education for Papuan children, so they can develop competitiveness and superior human resources. “On Saturday (4/7) we dispatched 124 ADEM students to depart for five provinces in Indonesia, and all participants sent are representatives from nine districts and cities in Papua Province,” he said. He noted that this programme is an excellent opportunity for Papuan children to obtain education in various regions of Indonesia. He therefore advised them to make the most of this opportunity by studying diligently and achieving success. He also expressed appreciation to the central government for continuing to allocate the ADEM programme for Papuan children. He expressed hope that the programme’s quota could be increased in the coming years, so that more Papuan students would have the opportunity to study outside the region. “We advise all participants to uphold their own good name, that of their families, their regions of origin, and the educational institutions sending them. The students are also asked to focus on their studies, avoid negative social interactions, and not engage in disciplinary violations that could result in expulsion from the programme,” he said.
