Papua Regional Police Strengthens Synergy to Address Security in Papua Mountains
Jayapura (ANTARA) - The Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua) is strengthening synergy in the security sector to address security disturbances occurring in several areas of the Papua Mountains Province. To that end, Polda Papua, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the regional government, held a coordination meeting on security stability in the Papua Mountains in Jayapura on Tuesday. Papua Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Patrige Renwarin, after the meeting, told ANTARA on Tuesday that the meeting focused on mitigating the security developments in the Papua Province, particularly in Yahukimo Regency. “Mitigation efforts are being carried out to minimise the occurrence of security disturbances, which have reportedly increased, especially in Yahukimo Regency,” he said. These efforts aim to prevent a recurrence of security incidents in the area and demonstrate the state’s commitment to addressing security disturbances, ensuring that the community does not feel uneasy and can carry out their activities normally. “In the meeting, the TNI, Polri, and the Papua Mountains Provincial Government committed to providing a sense of security to the community in Yahukimo Regency,” said Patrige. He stated that Polda Papua is not adding personnel to Yahukimo, as the Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force is already in place. “Indeed, to handle the security disturbances carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) and its sympathisers, the Yahukimo Police are being assisted by the Damai Operation Task Force,” he said. Meanwhile, the Head of the Damai Cartenz Operation (ODC), Brigadier General of Police Faizal Rahmadani, said separately that his team has added ODC personnel to Dekai, the capital of Yahukimo Regency, to strengthen the personnel in the area. “Currently, 250 ODC personnel are stationed in Yahukimo Regency,” said Brigadier General of Police Faizal Rahmadani.
