Papua Provincial Government Appoints National Paskibraka Representatives as Ambassadors of Nationalism

The Papua Provincial Government hopes that two students representing the region as members of the 2026 National Flag-Raising Squad (Paskibraka) will become ambassadors of nationalism, spreading the spirit of unity, nationalism, and love for the homeland to the younger generation of Papua. Octavianus Djaja Sanda, Head of National Insight at the Papua Provincial National Unity and Politics Agency (Kesbangpol), stated in Jayapura on Monday that the two students are currently undergoing centralised education and training in Jakarta and Depok in preparation for their duties at the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia ceremony on 17 August 2026. “We hope that after completing their duties as members of the National Paskibraka, both students can become ambassadors of nationalism who inspire the younger generation of Papua by continuing to uphold the values of Pancasila, unity, discipline, and love for the homeland,” he said. According to Octavianus, the two participants were selected through a tiered process starting from the district/city level, then the provincial level, up to the national selection organised by the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP). “Before departing for Jakarta, both also received guidance and motivation from the Vice Governor of Papua to maintain discipline, health, and the good name of the region,” he added. He explained that the Papua Provincial Government initially sent six students, or three pairs of participants, to take part in the National Paskibraka selection. However, only two students successfully passed and were entrusted to represent Papua as members of the 2026 National Paskibraka. “This achievement is a source of pride for Papua and demonstrates that the region’s youth possess the quality, character, and national spirit to compete at the national level,” he said. He added that his party hopes the two regional representatives can participate in the entire series of education and training with full responsibility, enabling them to optimally carry out the task of raising the Red and White flag at the 81st Independence Day commemoration. “In addition to carrying out their duties as National Paskibraka, both are expected to become role models and agents for strengthening national insight in schools and communities upon their return to Papua, as part of efforts to build a generation of young people with character and competitiveness,” he concluded.
