Papua Police Send 300 Brimob Personnel to Bolster Security in Wamena
The Papua Regional Police have dispatched around 300 Brimob personnel to bolster security in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains, in an effort to prevent further outbreaks of inter-tribal conflict.
The Liaison Officer for the Papua Regional Police in Papua Mountains, Commissioner Andi Y Enoch, stated in Wamena on Sunday that, following instructions from the Chief of Police, additional Brimob personnel were deployed to support security and restore order in Jayawijaya. The reinforcements arrived in Wamena on Saturday afternoon (16 May).
“In accordance with the Chief of Police’s directives, approximately 300 Brimob personnel from the Papua Regional Police were flown to Wamena to assist with security and help restore the situation here,” he said.
“After conducting direct monitoring in the field, we found that the public order situation is now secure, and residents have returned to their daily activities,” he added.
He explained that the primary focus in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, is currently on restoring public order following the inter-tribal conflict and helping residents return to their home areas after the clashes.
He expressed hope that inter-tribal conflicts in Papua Mountains will not recur and that communities can live together peacefully in the region.
“We at the Papua Regional Police certainly hope that the tribal conflict that occurred in Wamena will not happen again, and that all residents can live peacefully in Papua Mountains,” he said.
