Papua Pegunungan's Red and White Front Condemns Armed Criminal Group Violence in Yahukimo

Acts of violence against civilians are indefensible, as they contradict humanitarian values and the law, and disrupt security and order in the Land of Papua, particularly in Highland Papua.

Wamena (ANTARA) - The Barisan Merah Putih (BMP) of Highland Papua has condemned acts of violence allegedly committed by an armed criminal group (KKB) against three civilians in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua.

BMP Highland Papua chairman Agus Huby, speaking in Wamena on Saturday, said violence against civilians cannot be justified because it contravenes humanitarian values and disrupts security in Highland Papua.

“Violence against civilians is an act that cannot be justified because it contradicts humanitarian and legal values, and disturbs security and order in the Land of Papua, particularly in Highland Papua,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of BMP Jayawijaya Regency, Hengki Heselo, called on all elements of society to safeguard unity, avoid being provoked by unverified information, and support the creation of a conducive security situation in Highland Papua.

“We also extend our deepest condolences to the families of the three victims killed by the KKB in Yahukimo Regency,” he said.

As a form of social concern, BMP Highland Papua and BMP Jayawijaya Regency distributed aid in the form of basic food packages to residents in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency.

“This activity is a tangible expression of the organisation’s care in helping the community and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood amid the various challenges being faced,” added BMP Highland Papua chairman Agus Huby.

Earlier, footage circulated on social media showing violence allegedly carried out by the KKB group led by Kopi Tua Heluka near the Trans-Papua Road in Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua. In that incident, three indigenous Papuan civilians were reported killed after being accused of spying for the police.
