Papua Language Centre to Hold First National Regional Languages Congress in August 2026
Wamena (ANTARA) - The Papua Language Centre has scheduled the first national-level regional languages congress in Jayapura, Papua, in August 2026 to support the preservation of regional languages across the country.
Head of the Papua Language Centre, Valentina L Tanate, stated in a written release in Jayapura on Saturday that the centre will hold the first national-level regional languages congress in Papua in August 2026.
According to her, the regional languages congress is a programme of the Language Development and Cultivation Agency under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia for 2026.
“This congress is not a regional programme, but a programme of the Language Development and Cultivation Agency under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia this year to maintain the existence of regional languages in Indonesia,” she said.
She explained that the first national-level regional languages congress to be held in Jayapura, Papua, will collaborate with local governments throughout Papua.
“To ensure the success of the first national-level regional languages congress, we will collaborate with local governments throughout Papua,” she said.
She added that the support from local governments in the six provinces of Papua is very serious to ensure the success of the regional languages congress activity.
“We involve local governments, both provincial and regency levels throughout Papua, in the regional languages congress activity so that they can create regional regulations or Perda on the preservation of regional languages,” she said.
