Papua Governor Optimistic that Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih Will Propel Supiori
Jayapura – The Governor of Papua, Mathius D. Fakhiri, is optimistic that the development of Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih in Kampung Marsram, Supiori Regency, will drive regional progress while improving the welfare of the local people. ‘We are confident that the programme conceived by President Prabowo Subianto can strengthen the economy of communities from the family level up to the kampung,’ he said in Jayapura on Saturday. According to Fakhiri, all government-built projects aim to improve people’s welfare. ‘If the family economy grows, the kampung will develop, the district will become stronger, and the impact will also be felt by the regency and provincial governments,’ he added. He explained that the development of the integrated fisherfolk area also has the potential to support the development of the tourism sector, particularly water tourism in Supiori Regency, because it is supported by the beauty of the coastal area and the community’s fishery resources. Therefore, he invited the people of Kampung Marsram to support the development programme and not hinder the process with issues of tanah ulayat (ulayat land). ‘Both the provincial government and the regency government do not take the ownership rights of adat communities because the land used remains the property of the local residents. We are simply building for the benefit of the community so that the benefits can be felt together,’ he said.
