Papua Governor Offers Eid Gifts: Vehicle Tax Discounts Up to 30 Percent
Jayapura – Papua Governor Mathius D Fakhiri has given an Eid gift for 1447 Hijriyah to the local community in the form of motor vehicle tax (PKB) relief. This is done to encourage taxpayer compliance while increasing regional revenue. “This policy is a form of stimulus for the community to promptly settle their tax obligations, both active ones and those in arrears,” he said in Jayapura on Monday (23/3/2026). Mathius hopes that the public will take advantage of this gift. “We are providing exemption from administrative penalties as well as discounts on the principal motor vehicle tax. For compliant taxpayers who pay before the due date, a 15 percent discount is given as a form of appreciation,” he stated. He explained that for vehicle owners with overdue taxes or who are late in re-registering, incentives are offered in the form of penalty waivers and a 10 percent discount on the principal tax for each year of arrears. “We are also providing a 30 percent discount for vehicles from outside the region that are being transferred into Papua,” he added. He further noted that this programme of penalty exemptions and discounts for arrears and vehicle transfers will apply for three months, from 1 April to 30 June 2026. “We urge the public not to delay payments and to take advantage of the programme by visiting Samsat offices, service kiosks, or the Mobile Samsat Unit before the deadline expires,” he said.
