Papua councillors miss inauguration
JAYAPURA, Papua: Papua General Elections Commission (KPUD) inaugurated on Friday elected councillors at the provincial council, all except for seven councillors.
The inauguration of the seven councillors-elect has been delayed indefinitely due to ballot counting and internal party problems.
For example, Ramses Wally from the Indonesia Justice and Unity Party was recently appointed by his party to replace elected councillor Cecilia Renyut following an alleged party statute violation by Cecilia.
However, Ramses cannot be sworn in until the General Elections Commission (KPU) approves his appointment. The KPU in turn is waiting for formal notification from the party.
The seven councillors are from seven different political parties. The council comprises 56 members. -- JP
