Papua Barat Guarantees Food Safety for National Pesparawi Contingents
The Papua Barat Provincial Government is preparing a food safety monitoring system to guarantee the quality of consumption for all contingents participating in the 14th National Pesta Paduan Suara Gerejawi (Pesparawi) in Manokwari, scheduled for 18-28 June 2026. Head of the Papua Barat Health Office, dr Alwan Rimosan, stated on Thursday that food safety is one of the committee’s priorities to ensure that all meals served meet health standards and are fit for consumption. “We must ensure that the menu served is safe, hygienic, and complies with health standards,” he said. He explained that the local government is involving three other agencies in the food safety team: the Manokwari Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), the Health Unit of the XVIII/Kasuari Regional Military Command, and the Medical and Health Division of the Papua Barat Regional Police. “Food samples will be examined daily at the BPOM Manokwari laboratory. If the Vice President attends, the Regional Military Command will be responsible for food security,” Alwan stated. In addition to food safety, he noted that the local government is also intensifying the prevention of malaria and dengue fever through indoor residual spraying and fogging. These efforts are focused on all non-hotel accommodations where contingents from various provinces will be staying, allowing them to participate in all competition events safely without health disruptions.
