Papua airline begins flying cargo
JAYAPURA, Papua (JP): PT Papua Indonesia Air System began on
Monday to service the remote areas of Indonesia's easternmost
province of Papua, Antara reported.
For mow, the company is transporting cargo from Wamena to
Jayapura using a Fokker 27. The company's operation was marked by
prayer and a gathering at Sentani Airport, attended by Papua
Governor Jaap Solossa.
"I welcomed the company's operation because it will help the
local government deal with transportation difficulties in Papua,
which is covered by rainforests," Governor Jaap said.
Meanwhile, the airline's managing director, George Waromi,
said he would maintain the safety and quality of the company's
service. Waromi added that he was trying to add more vessels this
year. -- JP
