PAP unveils new vision
SINGAPORE (DPA): The ruling People's Action Party (PAP)
yesterday released its manifesto for the coming parliamentary
general elections to the public, underscoring the importance of
the party staying in power to usher Singapore safely into the
next century.
Dubbed "Singapore 21: Make it our best home", the manifesto
said the party would "fight the future with a Singapore 21
vision" to make sure that not only the nation but also Southeast
Asia sustains good economic growth in the years ahead.
The five-point manifesto focuses on the need to create wealth
for the country, share its success among Singaporeans, invest in
the young, look after the old and build ties among the people.
Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, who unveiled the manifesto, said
it was aimed at exposing the fallacies of a sprinkling of
opposition parties and watch the current economic slowdown so as
to take "decisive action" if the economy headed for slower growth
next year.
The PAP is expected to win a landslide victory in the next
elections, the date of which is yet to be announced.
