Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Lebaran Iddulfitri holiday is closely associated with the mudik tradition, a mass movement that consistently generates significant spikes in Indonesia’s national economic activity.

Millions of homecoming travellers move simultaneously from economic centres to regional areas each year. The Lebaran mudik has the potential to boost consumption across transportation, energy, tourism, food and beverage, and local micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

This phenomenon has transformed mudik from merely a cultural tradition into a strategic economic moment that reflects Indonesia’s genuine economic pulse.

The potential for economic circulation during the Lebaran holiday is substantial, supported by the large number of travellers. Infrastructure and Regional Development Coordinating Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has predicted that 143.9 million people will travel during the 2026 Lebaran break.

The first peak exodus is estimated to occur on 14 and 15 March 2026, whilst the second peak is projected for 18 and 19 March 2026.

The government has provided stimulus to boost economic growth during the 2026 Lebaran holiday. One such initiative is the BINA (Belanja di Indonesia Aja – Shop in Indonesia Only) Lebaran 2026 programme. Running for 25 days from 6 to 30 March 2026, it involves approximately 380 companies, 800 brands, and over 80,000 retail outlets across various regions of Indonesia. The programme is further supported by around 400 shopping centres offering various promotions and discounts to the public.

The government targets the BINA Lebaran 2026 programme to generate total public consumption of up to Rp 53 trillion, representing a 20 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

As Mudik 2026 approaches, the public’s need for accurate, real-time, and relevant information becomes increasingly important. To address this demand, CNBC Indonesia proudly presents information on mudik themed “Exploring Mudik 2026: Safe Homecoming, Safe Family, Stay Profitable”.
