PANRB Minister States Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools Establishment Awaits Presidential Regulation

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Minister of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), Rini Widyantini, stated that the establishment of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools within the Ministry of Religious Affairs is pending the issuance of a presidential regulation.

“We have, of course, received preliminary approval from the President regarding the presidential regulation, and this is still in progress. Hopefully, it can be signed soon,” said Rini at the PANRB Ministry building in Jakarta on Tuesday (24 February).

Rini explained that the PANRB Ministry is currently awaiting the signing of the presidential regulation because the entire process of establishing the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools has been completed internally.

“We have finished our part. It just needs to be signed,” she said.

Previously, the plan to establish the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools within the Ministry of Religious Affairs was announced by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, during the commemoration of National Islamic Boarding School Day on 22 October 2025.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Romo Muhammad Syafi’i, explained that the establishment of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools within the Ministry of Religious Affairs would amend Presidential Regulation Number 152 of 2024 concerning the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

On 24 October 2025, President Prabowo Subianto, in an official statement, stated that the establishment of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools is a concrete step by the government to strengthen the ecosystem of religious education based on Islamic boarding schools.

On 30 October 2025, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kamaruddin Amin, said that his ministry proposed five directorates and one secretariat within the structure of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools.

On 28 January 2026, the Minister of Religious Affairs stated that the establishment and operationalization of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools within the Ministry of Religious Affairs would require a budget of up to IDR 12.6 trillion.
