Pangeran Jayakarta Pilgrimage Becomes Tradition to Welcome Jakarta's 499th Anniversary

The East Jakarta City Government held a ceremony and pilgrimage to the tomb of Pangeran Jayakarta as a tradition to welcome the 499th Anniversary of Jakarta. East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin stated that this tradition must not be broken and should be preserved, continuing as it has from the past to the present. According to him, the pilgrimage with the civil service corps is a form of respect for the services of the city’s founder. The solemn activity with the extended family of Pangeran Jayakarta also became a moment for fostering ties at the Assalafiyah Mosque. Meanwhile, RH Manaf, Chairman of the Jami Assalafiyah Mosque Prosperity Council and a descendant of Pangeran Jayakarta, appreciated the East Jakarta City Government’s consistency in maintaining this pilgrimage culture. He expressed hope that the activity, which honours Pangeran Jayakarta, would bring peace to the capital’s residents. Manaf echoed the Mayor’s sentiment that the tradition must remain unbroken, noting that they prayed together, especially for East Jakarta and the safety of Jakarta in the current conditions, offering their inner selves to the founder of Jakarta to ask for safety and comfort.
