Pangandaran Regent Citra Pitriyami has confirmed she is safe and healthy after falling when the Pongpet bridge collapsed moments after it was inaugurated on Sunday (30/8/2026). As previously reported, the Pangandaran Regent, along with the Commander of Military District 0625 Pangandaran and several other officials, was crossing the newly built bridge at the time.

She shared the moment after the incident on her social media. In the video, Citra can be seen embracing residents who were still in the vicinity of the site.

“Alhamdulillah, I have still been granted safety, health, and the opportunity to serve the community. Thank you for the prayers and everything,” Citra wrote on her personal Instagram account, as quoted on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Earlier, Cijulang Police Chief First Inspector Dimas Aditama confirmed there were no fatalities in the incident, which occurred at around 4.10 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The incident took place moments after the inauguration ceremony concluded. The group of officials and residents then crossed the newly inaugurated bridge.

“Officers immediately secured the location. Alhamdulillah, there were no fatalities and the situation remains safe and conducive,” Dimas said.

Meanwhile, in an official statement, the Indonesian Army, through its Public Relations Service, explained that the main structure of the Pongpet Suspension Bridge did not collapse entirely. The problematic part was the sling cable on the left side, which detached from its main anchor, causing the bridge to tilt.
