Pandji Pragiwaksono to Be Questioned by Bareskrim Next Week Over Toraja Case
Jakarta — Police investigators from the Directorate of Cyber Crimes at the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim) have scheduled further questioning of comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono as a witness in a case related to stand-up material that allegedly insulted Toraja adat, on Monday 9 March 2026, next week. ‘On Monday Pandji will be questioned,’ said Kombes Rizki Agung, head of Sub-Directorate II of the Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri, to reporters on Friday 6 March 2026. The examination is expected to commence at 10:00 WIB.
The inquiry is part of an ongoing investigation into a report against Pandji over comedy material deemed to have insulted the Toraja people’s customary practices. ‘Pandji’s case has progressed; 14 witnesses and nine experts have been examined. Yesterday there was an examination of Pandji’s administrator, to supplement the investigation,’ he said, speaking at the Polri headquarters.
He explained that although Pandji had undergone a customary hearing in Toraja, South Sulawesi, the national legal process would continue. He noted that the customary hearing constitutes a form of living law or customary law, and the investigation is being conducted in parallel.
He also confirmed that even though the customary proceedings have taken place, the criminal process would continue and Pandji remains a witness. Pandji had previously complied with the investigators’ summons in Jakarta for the first time on Monday 2 February 2026. He stressed that the summons are not related to his stand-up material titled Mens Rea, which streams on Netflix, but to another show that has long been staged.
Pandji was reported to Bareskrim by Aliansi Pemuda Toraja in November 2025. The report concerns a comedy bit that touched on the Rambu Solo funeral culture in the piece from the Messake Bangsaku show performed in 2013. The bit is regarded as having insulted and demeaned Toraja customs, prompting a police report.
