Pandeglang Region Feels Colder at Night, BMKG Provides Explanation

The Pandeglang Regency area has been blanketed by cold temperatures at night, with a number of local residents reporting a drastic change in conditions. Head of the Centre for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region II, Hartanto, explained that this natural phenomenon is caused by the Australian Monsoon winds blowing towards the Asian continent via Indonesian territory. According to him, this Australian Monsoon wind is dry and carries little water vapour, especially at night when temperatures reach their minimum point.

"The phenomenon of cold temperatures ahead of the peak of the dry season in July to August, and sometimes until September, is caused by the Australian Monsoon winds blowing towards the Asian continent passing through Indonesian territory and the Indian Ocean waters, which also have relatively lower or colder sea surface temperatures," Hartanto said in a written statement on Friday (10/7/2026).

Additionally, this cold temperature is also influenced by geographical position, topographical conditions, regional altitude, and relatively dry air humidity. He stated that from June to August, the angular position of the sun’s rays is at its furthest point from Indonesia. Hartanto added that the more dominant wind influence from the east to southeast is less supportive of the cloud formation process. The lack of cloud cover at night causes heat radiation from the earth’s surface to be emitted directly into the atmosphere without any obstruction, resulting in a significant drop in temperature.

"Furthermore, calm winds at night inhibit air mixing, so that cold air becomes trapped at the earth’s surface," he explained. Hartanto also urged residents to remain vigilant regarding this cold temperature phenomenon and asked the public to continue maintaining their health. "Be aware of the decrease in the body’s immune system due to this cold and dry weather. Maintain your immune system and drink plenty of water, especially when doing outdoor activities," he said.
