Pandeglang Regency and Banten Provincial Governments Sued Over Damaged Roads
The Pandeglang Regency Government and the Banten Provincial Government have been sued in a civil action by local residents. The lawsuit concerns the condition of damaged roads in Pandeglang Regency.
“Yes, that’s correct [they have been sued]. It was registered today,” said Pandeglang District Court spokesperson Iskandar Zulkarnain when asked for confirmation on Tuesday (24/2/2026).
Zulkarnain said the defendant parties would be summoned to attend court proceedings. In civil cases, he noted, the defendants may be represented by legal counsel.
“The parties will be summoned for the first hearing. As for who will appear in court, the principle in civil cases is that legal counsel may be used,” he said.
Four parties are named in the lawsuit: the Governor of Banten, the Banten Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, the Regent of Pandeglang, and the Pandeglang Transportation Agency.
The lawsuit was filed following a traffic accident that killed Khairi after he fell from a motorcycle ridden by Al Amin. The incident occurred on 27 January.
The plaintiffs’ legal representative, Raden Elang Mulyana, said the Governor of Banten and the Regent of Pandeglang must be held accountable for the condition of the damaged roads. He explained that under Law Number 22 of 2009 on Traffic and Road Transport, the government has a role in providing safe and comfortable conditions for road users.
“Those who should be held legally accountable are the Governor of Banten and the Regent of Pandeglang as the officials responsible for the Labuan-Pandeglang highway,” he said.
“Damaged roads clearly endanger road users. Traffic accidents caused by damaged roads are not uncommon. This should receive greater attention from those responsible for or managing the roads,” he added.
Elang said the lawsuit was filed because the incident had caused both material and immaterial losses. He stated that the immaterial damages amount to Rp 1 billion.
“A civil lawsuit has been filed for material and immaterial losses. The material damages are approximately Rp 20 million, and the immaterial damages are Rp 1 billion,” he said.
