Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has announced that the issuance of Chinese Renminbi Yuan-denominated debt securities, known as Panda Bonds, has been postponed until the end of July 2026. The Panda Bond issuance, delayed from its initial target of June 2026, was pushed back to attract more investors ready to commit capital to the debt securities, Purbaya acknowledged. “Because many investors have only just learned of the information, it has been extended,” Purbaya said during a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Friday, 26 June 2026. “We will issue the Panda Bond at the end of July so that it can be absorbed as much as possible,” he stated. Purbaya confirmed that many Chinese investors have already shown great enthusiasm about becoming holders of the Indonesian government bonds. He noted that several major fund managers in China, such as The China Investment Corporation (CIC) and the Export-Import Bank of China (China EximBank), have expressed interest in purchasing the Panda Bonds. “(They said) they want several billion dollars. (Some) said, ‘I want to join as an underwriter.’ So, I allowed them to become underwriters,” he said. Purbaya had previously stated that the government was targeting a Panda Bond issuance worth US$1 billion. However, if the market proves large, Purbaya did not rule out the possibility that the government would expand the opportunity. “We will see what the market is like. If the market can be larger, we will enlarge it, depending on market conditions,” he said.
