Pancasila as the Guiding Star for Indonesia's 633 Ethnic Groups and 17,000 Islands

Tenggarong, East Kalimantan - Kutai Kartanegara Regency Secretary Sunggono stated that Pancasila has successfully served as a guiding star for Indonesia’s 633 ethnic groups and approximately 17,000 islands, maintaining unity despite differing customs and cultures.

‘Pancasila is the guiding star for national life. To date, Pancasila has proven its resilience in uniting diverse aspects of life,’ said Regency Secretary Sunggono during the 2026 Pancasila Birth Anniversary at the Kukar Regent’s Office in Tenggarong, East Kalimantan, on Monday.

Reading BPIP Head Yudian Wahyudi’s written statement, Sunggono highlighted that Indonesia remains steadfast amid fragmentation threats, demonstrating how over 17,000 islands and diverse ethnicities can unite under national bonds. Yudian emphasised that the Pancasila Birth Anniversary is a moment for reflection to ensure the ideology remains alive in every citizen’s heart.

Pancasila also serves as a moral anchor to address various dynamics across eras, from technological disruption to geopolitical challenges. It forms the basis for Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy, with consultation and consensus values serving as key diplomatic instruments to bridge differences and defuse conflicts.

He therefore called on all sectors of society, particularly the youth, to make Pancasila a living ideology, ensuring its values are not merely wall decorations or historical texts but manifested in daily attitudes and actions.
