Barisan Muda Penegak Amanat Nasional (BM PAN), the youth wing of the National Mandate Party, has addressed speculation and allegations regarding the involvement of certain political groups in mobilising recent student movements. The organisation questioned the consistency of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle’s (PDIP) stance towards the government of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

BM PAN views that the alleged involvement of PDIP in these student actions raises public questions about the consistency of PDIP’s political stance. On one hand, PDIP has openly expressed its support for the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, said BM PAN Secretary-General Slamet Aryadi on Thursday (18/6/2026).

BM PAN assessed that there is potential for ambiguity in the public sphere if PDIP is indeed involved in encouraging movements aimed at exerting political pressure on the Prabowo government. For BM PAN, consistency in political stance is a crucial factor in maintaining national stability. Political certainty and stability are prerequisites for successful development and achieving public welfare targets under the Prabowo-Gibran administration, Slamet stated.

BM PAN noted that various student demands, such as those concerning the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate and the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme, have already received responses from the government. Regarding monetary policy, steps taken by the authorities are considered to have contributed to the recent strengthening of the Rupiah and improved market sentiment, as reflected in the movement of the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG).

On the fiscal side, the government is seen as maintaining its commitment to budget discipline by keeping the state budget deficit below the safe threshold of 3 percent of GDP. In implementing the MBG programme, the government is also continuously evaluating and improving governance, including taking action against meal fulfilment service units (SPPG) that fail to carry out their duties according to regulations.

Therefore, BM PAN hopes that all parties can be objective in observing national economic developments, which are currently also influenced by global economic dynamics and uncertainty. BM PAN calls on all elements of the nation, including political parties both inside and outside parliament, to help create a conducive political climate, safeguard national political certainty, and prioritise national interests over group interests. A well-maintained political stability will serve as a crucial foundation for smooth development and the acceleration of public welfare under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, he added.

PDIP Central Board Chairman Ganjar Pranowo previously responded to accusations from a student alliance called BEM Bersatu regarding the alleged closeness of Tiyo Ardianto, one of the mobilisers of the mass action, to his campaign team during the 2024 presidential election. Ganjar argued that criticism should be answered with data, not labelling. Labelling activists or critical citizens as belonging to a certain political camp is the easiest way to avoid the substance of the issue, Ganjar said on Wednesday (17/6). If there is criticism, answer it with data. If there is input, respond with policy. Do not build a narrative as if only government supporters are allowed to speak, while those who are critical are automatically considered political opponents, he continued.
