PAN withdraws support for Harun

DEPOK: The National Mandate Party (PAN) has withdrawn its support for Depok mayoral candidate Harun Heryana and his running mate Farkhan A.R.

The deputy chairman of PAN's Depok chapter, Irwan Nasution, said on Friday the support was withdrawn because the candidates were not cooperating with the coalition of political parties that nominated them.

"They established their own campaign team, whose members were not from the coalition of four parties (that nominated them)," Irwan was quoted as saying by Tempointeraktif.

The three other parties in the coalition are the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Star Reform Party (PBR) and the Concern for the Nation Functional Party (PKPB).

Hundreds of people wearing PAN shirts and buttons attended the campaign stops of Badrul Kamal and Syhabuddin Ahmad, another pair of mayoral candidates, on Friday.

After winning 8 percent of the vote in the last legislative election, PAN is the largest of the four parties in the coalition that nominated Harun and Farkhan. -- JP
