PAN Fully Supports Prabowo's Efforts to Dampen Escalation in US–Iran Conflict
Jakarta, VIVA – Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), the general chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), emphasised his party’s commitment to fully backing President Prabowo Subianto’s strategic diplomacy in international affairs. One of the focal points is Prabowo’s efforts to dampen the escalation of the Middle East conflict, particularly between the United States and Iran. Zulhas said that Prabowo’s active role on the global stage embodies the mandate of the 1945 Constitution to help maintain world order. He added that Indonesia should not simply be a spectator amid mounting geopolitical tensions. ‘In principle, it’s better for us to participate, to be involved in decisions rather than just be outside and unable to do anything,’ Zulhas told reporters at the PAN Central Executive Board Office in South Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026. ‘Therefore, there is an effort to stop what Israel is doing in Gaza. It’s not easy, but the effort must exist; otherwise we’d just be angry and complaining.’
‘Furthermore, Zulhas highlighted the tensions between the United States-Israel and Iran. He revealed that as President, Prabowo is pursuing tangible steps to bridge the conflicting parties. In fact, Prabowo has secured support from other countries, such as Pakistan. ’The President is trying; he has even obtained support from Pakistan to mediate and bridge. We are attempting something, and we fully support it because it accords with our constitutional mandate,’ he asserted.
‘Earlier reports stated that President Prabowo Subianto was said to be planning to fly to Tehran, Iran, with the Pakistani leader to dampen conflicts in the Middle East. That plan was disclosed directly by the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI), Jimly Asshiddiqie. Jimly said Prabowo had been telephoned by Iran’s leadership to visit Tehran to reduce the escalation. ’And I am grateful that the Prime Minister of Pakistan is willing to accompany President Prabowo on a visit to Tehran,’ Jimly told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex, Central Jakarta, quoted on Friday, 6 March 2026. ‘So it’s not only Indonesia; the plan is supported by the Prime Minister (or President) of Pakistan. I can’t recall which title he holds. They will go to Tehran together,’ he added.
