PAN Expels West Lombok Regent Following Corruption Arrest
The National Mandate Party (PAN) has expelled West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini from the party following his arrest in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). PAN Deputy Chairman Viva Yoga Mauladi confirmed the dismissal, stating that the party regrets the incident and apologises for the actions of its member who violated the law while in office.
“PAN allows the KPK to carry out its legal process transparently, objectively, and accountably to achieve justice and legal justice,” Viva Yoga said in a short message in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He also emphasised that PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan has consistently reminded all party members not to engage in corrupt practices. The party continuously urges its members who serve as regional heads to be introspective and careful in managing local governance.
In addition to serving as Regent of West Lombok, Lalu Ahmad Zaini was also the Chairman of PAN’s Regional Executive Board for West Nusa Tenggara. Viva Yoga confirmed that this position has now been taken over by the central executive board. “PAN always supports the existence of the KPK in its main duties and functions to eradicate corruption, create a clean government, and uphold fair law,” he added.
