The Pamekasan District Parliament in East Java has approved the district government’s plan to set aside reserve funds for the 2029 Regional Head Election (Pilkada), scheduled for 2029.

Ali Masykur, the Chairman of Pamekasan District Parliament, stated that the approval to allocate reserve funds for the Pilkada was necessary due to the substantial budget required for its implementation.

“Based on estimates, the budget requirement for the Pamekasan Regional Head Election is approximately 60 billion Rupiah,” he said during a Ramadan dialogue event in Pamekasan on Saturday evening.

He explained that the approval to allocate funds for the simultaneous regional elections received support from all factions and commissions within the Pamekasan District Parliament.

“The Draft Regional Regulation on Reserve Funds for the 2029 Regional Head Election is also being discussed jointly with the executive branch, namely the Pamekasan District Government,” he said.

However, despite approving the allocation, some factions reminded the government of the importance of not neglecting Pamekasan District’s priority programmes. These include poverty alleviation, reducing stunting prevalence, and meeting minimum service standards in education and health.

The proposed budget of 60 billion Rupiah is higher than the 50 billion Rupiah allocated for the 2024 Regional Head Election.

According to Pamekasan District Parliament Chairman Ali Masykur, this increase is due to anticipated rises in the costs of various items needed for the election, necessitating a budget adjustment for this democratic exercise.
