JAKARTA — Complaints from residents of RW 02 in Rawa Buaya, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, regarding the piped water supply from Perumda Air Minum Jaya (PAM JAYA), which only flows at midnight and is often murky and smelly, are now being addressed.

PAM Jaya has visited the site directly and prepared several solutions, including the operation of booster pumps to improve the distribution of clean water.

Chairman of RW 02 Rawa Buaya, Suntama, stated that the PAM Jaya team inspected the location to follow up on residents’ complaints on Wednesday afternoon (15/4/2026).

As an initial step, PAM Jaya is operating booster pumps to increase water pressure. As a result, water quality at several public facility points has begun to improve and flows more smoothly.

“Earlier, the water coming out in the RTs, especially at the mushola, has started to get better because it has been boosted directly from the morning from 9 o’clock until now, possibly still being boosted at two points,” explained Suntama.

Suntama said that from the joint inspection with RT and RW officials, PAM Jaya offered three solutions to improve clean water services in the area.

The first solution, which has been implemented immediately, is the operation of booster pumps. These pumps function to suck and push water flow from the reservoir so that distribution to residents’ settlements is smoother, while also helping to flush out sediment and dirt in the pipes.

“The first solution is to install booster pumps from the existing PAM water in the area, like the one in RT 001 which has already been done. Another one is installed in RT 07 near the PHB Bojong house,” he said.

“Whether we can get permission from the landowner or not, that’s why we are still trying,” he added.

In addition to booster pumps, PAM Jaya has also prepared a second solution in the form of injecting special fluid into the pipe network to seal leaks at several points. These leaks are suspected to be the cause of the murky water flowing to residents’ homes.

“Because PAM water cannot possibly supply dirty or smelly water, as its health is already guaranteed. So every PAM water that comes out, if there are no pipe leaks, will definitely flow clear. Because I myself am right here in front, at my house, it is not affected at all,” he said.

The third solution, as the last option, is the dismantling and total replacement of the pipe network. However, Suntama hopes that this step will not be necessary.

This is because the neighbourhood roads in RW 02 were recently repaired and revamped by the West Jakarta Sub-District Office for Housing, People’s Settlements, and Areas in 2023–2024.

“Hopefully the third solution does not need to be implemented, because if the third solution is carried out and it doesn’t work, it will damage the roads in my area that have been worked on by the Sub-District Office for Housing,” he explained.

“Now the problem is not dying for a day, a week, a month, it’s been a long time. Hopefully (the pump is installed and the water flows smoothly). This is for the community’s interest, for the people’s interest in water,” Suntama concluded.
