PAM Jaya Secures MURI Record for Most Water Pipe Connections in 2025

Jakarta’s PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda) has secured a record from the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for the highest number of drinking water pipe connections in a single year, totalling 72,666 connections throughout 2025. The award was received directly by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during the Jakarta Water Hero 2026 event. The achievement bolsters the Jakarta Provincial Government’s optimism about realising 100 percent piped drinking water service by 2029. “When I announced that Jakarta’s clean water service must reach 100 percent by 2029, many did not believe it. However, PAM Jaya’s coverage has now reached 82 percent. I am confident that within the next three years, the 100 percent target can be achieved,” Pramono said during his speech at the event held at the Jakarta City Hall on Friday. He stated that the MURI record is not the final goal. The next challenge is ensuring the network expansion reaches all residents, especially community groups that still struggle to access clean water. “For me, the MURI record is a form of appreciation for what has been done. However, what is more important is ensuring that the community, especially those in need, gain access to clean water because water is a basic right of every citizen,” Pramono said. He also urged PAM Jaya to maintain professionalism in its work, especially after its transformation into a regional company. The separation of regulatory and operator functions is considered crucial so that the company can be managed transparently, accountably, and free from intervention. “Professionalism is the keyword if PAM Jaya wants to continue advancing. There must be no intervention in running the company. When governance is well maintained, we begin to feel the results today,” Pramono stated. Excessive groundwater extraction is considered to risk worsening land subsidence and Jakarta’s environmental resilience. “Water is not merely a commodity, but a basic right of citizens. Therefore, drinking water services must be safe, high-quality, affordable, and accessible equally to all communities. Water security cannot be built solely through infrastructure and policy, but also requires the participation of all citizens to use water wisely,” Pramono said. Meanwhile, PT PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasruddin explained that the company’s pipe network has currently reached approximately 13,200 kilometres. To achieve 100 percent coverage, he added, the network will be expanded by more than 2,000 kilometres in the coming years. He further revealed that PAM Jaya is also developing new water treatment plants, reservoirs as raw water sources, and government and business entity cooperation schemes to strengthen financing. For low-income communities, PAM Jaya offers the Kartu Air Sehat programme with a tariff of Rp1 per litre. “We continue to innovate so that the targets set by the Jakarta Provincial Government can be achieved. God willing, with the support of all stakeholders, the people of Jakarta can fully enjoy piped clean water services by 2029,” Arief added.
