PAM Jaya Secures MURI Record for Most Water Pipe Connections in 2025
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda) has achieved a Museum Rekor-Dunia Indonesia (MURI) record for the highest number of drinking water pipe connections in a single year, with a total of 72,666 connections throughout 2025.
The award was received directly by the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, during the Jakarta Water Hero 2026 event. This achievement strengthens the optimism of the Jakarta Provincial Government to realise 100 per cent piped drinking water services by 2029.
“When I launched the initiative that clean water services in Jakarta must reach 100 per cent by 2029, many were sceptical. However, PAM Jaya’s achievement has now reached 82 per cent. I am confident that within the next three years, we can achieve that 100 per cent target,” said Pramono during his speech at the Jakarta Water Hero 2026 event at the Jakarta City Hall courtyard on Friday.
He stated that the MURI record is not the ultimate goal. The next challenge is to ensure the expansion of the network reaches all citizens, especially community groups that still face difficulties in accessing clean water.
“For me, the MURI record is a form of appreciation for what has been accomplished. However, what is more important is ensuring that the community, especially those in need, gains access to clean water because water is a basic right for every citizen,” Pramono expressed.
Furthermore, he urged PAM Jaya to maintain professionalism in its operations, particularly after its transformation into a regional company. The separation of regulatory and operator functions is considered vital so that the company can be managed transparently, accountably, and free from intervention.
“Professionalism is the key if PAM Jaya wants to continue progressing. There must be no intervention in running the company. When governance is well-maintained, the results are something we are starting to feel today,” said Pramono.
Excessive groundwater extraction is considered a risk that could worsen land subsidence and Jakarta’s environmental resilience.
“Water is not merely a commodity, but a basic right of the citizens. Therefore, drinking water services must be safe, high-quality, affordable, and accessible equally to all members of society. Water security is not enough to be built through infrastructure and policy alone, but also requires the participation of all citizens to use water wisely,” Pramund noted.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda), Arief Nasruddin, explained that PAM Jaya’s piping network has currently reached approximately 13,200 kilometres (km).
To achieve 100 per cent coverage, he added, the network will be increased by more than 2,000 km in the coming years.
Furthermore, he revealed that PAM Jaya is also developing new water treatment plants, reservoirs as raw water sources, and public-private partnership schemes to strengthen financing.
For low-income communities, PAM Jaya provides the ‘Healthy Water Card’ programme with a tariff of Rp1 per litre.
“We continue to innovate so that the targets set by the Jakarta Provincial Government can be achieved. God willing, with the support of all stakeholders, the people of Jakarta can fully enjoy piped clean water services by 2029,” added Arief.
