Jakarta — PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda) is developing sustainability innovations to reduce plastic waste and to advance technology that creates water by capturing water particles from the air.

PAM Jaya Director-General Arief Nasrudin stated that the company plans to produce environmentally friendly packaged drinking water using paper-based packaging to replace plastic bottled drinking water.

“We will have bottled water from us, but the packaging will be paper. We won’t use plastic,” said Arief at City Hall on Wednesday.

According to Arief, the drinking water will be packaged using paper-based materials, making it easier to recycle compared to single-use plastic bottles.

“My plan is to give the DKI Jakarta government, the provincial government, instructions not to use plastic bottled water anymore and we want to offer a trial for free,” Arief said.

Arief hopes that the introduction of paper-packaged drinking water will be an initial step to reduce the use of plastic bottles that have been widely used in various government office activities.

“Hopefully, eventually every meeting in government offices will no longer use plastic bottled water,” said Arief.

With this technology, residents will be able to consume water directly without needing to boil it.

“We will have a device called ‘trapping atmosphere’. So it’s ‘water trapping atmosphere’, it has no water source but can create water,” he said.
