PAM Jaya Issues Warning Letter to Partner After Workers Die in East Jakarta

PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda) will issue a warning letter to its partner, PT Moya Indonesia, following the deaths of three subcontractor workers during a project in a culvert in the Cipayung area, East Jakarta. PAM Jaya’s President Commissioner, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, stressed that PAM Jaya has also demanded PT Moya Indonesia take full responsibility for the incident. “We are deeply saddened and extend our empathy to the victims who died during the construction work,” Prasetyo Edi said in a written statement on Saturday. “We have asked PT Moya to take full responsibility and resolve this properly in accordance with humanity and the law,” he continued. Prasetyo also stated that PAM Jaya has requested PT Moya Indonesia conduct an investigation with relevant parties to uncover the cause of the incident. Furthermore, PAM Jaya has instructed PT Moya Indonesia to fulfil all responsibilities to the victims and their families in accordance with applicable regulations. He emphasised that PAM Jaya is not merely waiting for the results of PT Moya Indonesia’s investigation. The regional-owned enterprise will also take firm action in line with the cooperation agreement between the two companies. “PAM Jaya will issue a warning letter to PT Moya Indonesia, with the hope that such an incident does not happen again,” he said. Meanwhile, PT Moya Indonesia stated it will conduct a thorough evaluation of the implementation of occupational health and safety standards following the incident. The company explained that the ongoing project involves the construction of a clean water distribution network infrastructure to support improved drinking water services for the people of Jakarta. “Workplace safety is the top priority in every project implementation. Moya will continue to strengthen the application of work safety standards and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with applicable procedures,” PT Moya Indonesia said in its written statement. The incident occurred on Thursday. Firefighters received a request to evacuate the victims at 9.49 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, and the victims were successfully evacuated at around 11.55 a.m. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said one of the deceased workers was a foreign national. Pramono stated that the three were subcontractors or third-party workers engaged in the project. “I have received a report from the President Director of PAM Jaya. It is true there were three victims,” Pramono said in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Friday.
