PAM Jaya Expands Services to Condet, Residents Begin Switching to Piped Water

Residents of Condet, East Jakarta, have begun to benefit from PAM Jaya’s piped drinking water service, which has now reached their area. Beyond receiving better water quality, several residents reported that household expenses have also become more economical.

One Condet resident, Darkat, stated that the quality of PAM Jaya water he receives is superior to the well water previously used. According to him, the well water in his neighbourhood tends to be yellowish in colour.

“PAM water is now quite good, clear and I am satisfied. In my area, the well water is mostly yellow,” Darkat said on Thursday (11/6/2026).

Darkat acknowledged that using piped water has also helped reduce his household’s monthly costs, as the electricity required to pump groundwater has decreased.

“Previously, basic needs like electricity and water could reach around Rp600,000 per month. Now it is around Rp400,000 to Rp450,000. So I am grateful to PAM Jaya for coming into our neighbourhood,” he said.

Another resident, Siti Nur, also expressed satisfaction with the quality of service received. According to her, the flowing water is clear enough for daily needs and there have been no distribution disruptions so far.

“PAM water is good, clear, and pristine for daily use, and there have been no disruptions. The cost is also cheap, only around Rp50,000 a month,” Siti stated.

PAM Jaya is continuously expanding its piping network across various areas of Jakarta to meet the target of 100 per cent service coverage by 2029. The network expansion is also expected to reduce public dependence on groundwater use.

Reducing groundwater consumption is deemed crucial as excessive exploitation is one of the factors contributing to land subsidence in Jakarta. Therefore, developing piped drinking water services is one of the government’s efforts to provide clean water access while preserving the sustainability of the capital’s water resources.
