PAM Jaya Demands Subcontractor Responsibility and Investigation After Three Workers Die in Culvert
PT PAM Jaya has called on PT Moya Indonesia to take full responsibility after three workers died in a culvert during a clean water distribution network project in Bambu Apus, Cipayung, East Jakarta. The regional water company is also demanding a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fatal workplace accident.
PAM Jaya’s President Commissioner, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, stated that the company has instructed PT Moya Indonesia to coordinate with relevant authorities to investigate the incident. ‘We have asked PT Moya to take full responsibility and resolve this matter properly in accordance with humanitarian principles and the law,’ Prasetyo said in a statement on Friday.
Prasetyo added that PAM Jaya will issue a formal warning letter to PT Moya Indonesia as a follow-up to the incident. This measure is intended to prevent similar occurrences in future project implementations. He also expressed his condolences over the deaths of the three subcontractor workers, noting that the tragedy would serve as evaluation material for future construction projects.
Meanwhile, PT Moya Indonesia announced it would conduct a thorough evaluation of its occupational health and safety (K3) implementation following the incident. The company affirmed that the project involves the construction of a clean water distribution network to support improved drinking water services in Jakarta. ‘Workplace safety is the top priority in every project execution. Moya will continue to strengthen the implementation of safety standards and ensure all work is carried out according to applicable procedures,’ the company stated.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that one of the three deceased workers was a foreign national. He clarified that the work was being carried out by a subcontractor, not directly by PAM Jaya. ‘The incident did not occur under PAM Jaya, but at the subcontractor level which was executing the work. All handling of the victims has currently been carried out,’ Pramono said.
