PAM Jaya Demands Investigation After Three Workers Die in Water Channel Project
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda) has asked PT Moya Indonesia to conduct an investigation and take responsibility for an incident in which three subcontracted workers died whilst carrying out work in a drainage culvert in front of Gate III of TMII, Cipayung Subdistrict, East Jakarta, on Thursday (9/7).
Based on preliminary information from the field, the incident is suspected to have occurred due to a lack of oxygen or exposure to gas inside the channel where the work was taking place.
“We have asked PT Moya to take full responsibility to resolve this matter properly, in accordance with humanity and the law,” said Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, President Commissioner of PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda), in an official statement on Friday.
He also requested that PT Moya Indonesia carry out an investigation with the relevant parties into the incident. According to Prasetyo, the company will not stand idle upon receiving the investigation report from PT Moya Indonesia and other parties.
He said the company would also take firm action against Moya Indonesia in accordance with the agreement between the two corporations. Moya is a PAM Jaya partner in the management and provision of the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM).
“PAM Jaya will issue a warning letter (SP) to PT Moya Indonesia, with the hope that a similar incident will not happen again,” Prasetyo asserted.
“We are deeply saddened and sympathise with those who died whilst carrying out construction work,” said Prasetyo.
Meanwhile, PT Moya Indonesia will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the implementation of occupational safety and health (K3) standards for construction workers following the deaths of three subcontracted workers on the PAM Jaya clean water distribution network construction project.
PT Moya Indonesia said the project under way is the construction of clean water distribution network infrastructure intended to support improved drinking water services for the people of Jakarta.
“Work safety is the top priority in every project implementation. Moya will continue to strengthen the application of work safety standards and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with applicable procedures,” PT Moya Indonesia wrote in its official statement.
