PAM Jaya Demands Investigation After Three Workers Die in Water Channel Project

PT PAM Jaya (Perseroda) has called on PT Moya Indonesia to conduct an investigation and take responsibility for an incident that resulted in the deaths of three subcontractor workers. The workers died while carrying out work in a culvert in front of TMII Gate, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, on Thursday (9/7). Initial field information suggests the incident occurred due to a lack of oxygen or exposure to gas inside the channel where the work was taking place. “We have asked PT Moya to take full responsibility and resolve this matter properly in accordance with humanitarian principles and the law,” said PT PAM Jaya President Commissioner Prasetyo Edi Marsudi in an official statement on Friday. He also requested that PT Moya Indonesia conduct an investigation with relevant parties into the incident. Prasetyo stated that the company would not remain silent upon receiving the investigation report from PT Moya Indonesia and other parties. He said the company would also take firm action against Moya Indonesia in accordance with the agreement between the two corporations. Moya is a partner of PAM Jaya in the management and provision of the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM). “PAM Jaya will issue a warning letter to PT Moya Indonesia, with the hope that similar incidents do not happen again,” Prasetyo stressed. “We are deeply saddened and express our empathy for the victims who died during the construction work,” Prasetyo said. Meanwhile, PT Moya Indonesia stated it will conduct a thorough evaluation of the implementation of occupational health and safety (K3) for construction workers following the deaths of the three subcontractor workers on the PAM Jaya clean water distribution network project. PT Moya Indonesia said the project being worked on is the construction of a clean water distribution network infrastructure aimed at supporting the improvement of drinking water services for the people of Jakarta. “Work safety is a top priority in every project implementation. Moya will continue to strengthen the implementation of work safety standards and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with applicable procedures,” PT Moya Indonesia said in an official statement.
