PAM JAYA assures water quality remains safe amid volcanic ash spread

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PAM JAYA has assured that the quality of water supplied to its customers remains safe and meets drinking water quality standards, in accordance with Health Ministerial Regulation No. 2 of 2023, amid current weather conditions and the spread of volcanic ash.

PAM JAYA President Director Arief Nasrudin said water quality checks are carried out regularly to ensure that the water produced and distributed by the company meets the established health standards.

“PAM JAYA ensures that the piped drinking water treatment process goes through treatment stages and quality monitoring before the water is distributed to customers. This monitoring is carried out comprehensively, from the raw water source, the treatment process, through to water ready for distribution via the pipeline network,” Arief said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

As part of efforts to ensure the quality and continuity of raw water supply, he added, the company also made a visit to Jatiluhur to see first-hand the condition and readiness of the raw water source, which forms an important part of PAM JAYA’s drinking water supply system.

According to him, this step was taken to ensure the availability of raw water and that the supply process continues to run well, so that water supply to customers remains guaranteed.

Water that has been treated and meets standards is then channelled through the pipeline network to customers, minimising the potential for exposure to or contamination of water from environmental factors during the distribution process.

Arief also urged customers to remain calm and to use PAM JAYA water as normal.

“We understand that the current situation may cause concern among the public. However, customers need not worry about the quality of PAM JAYA water. We also urge customers to continue using PAM JAYA water wisely and according to their daily needs,” Arief said.

Furthermore, he asked customers to maintain the cleanliness of their home environment and water facilities, including ensuring that water storage tanks (toren) and taps are kept clean. This is important to preserve water quality right up to the point of use.

Through these various efforts, PAM JAYA ensures that customers can continue to use piped water for their daily needs and need not worry about water quality due to the current spread of volcanic ash.
