Jakarta – PAM Jaya, in collaboration with Jakarta basketball club Pelita Jaya, is distributing tumblers to Jakarta residents as part of a healthy lifestyle campaign. The aim is for Jakarta, ranked 71st globally according to the Global Cities Index (GCI) 2025, to become an environmentally friendly city by establishing the habit of carrying tumblers as a new lifestyle practice among urban dwellers.

“We want Jakarta residents to carry tumblers everywhere they go. Here, we are collaborating with Pelita Jaya as an icon of young Jakartans to promote the tumbler-carrying movement and become tumbler advocates,” said PAM Jaya Chief Executive Director Arief Nasrudin in an official statement on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

Arief explained that Jakarta residents must gradually reduce their consumption of bottled drinking water. This is because Jakarta’s total daily waste generation reaches 7,000-8,000 tonnes. The volume of waste in Jakarta is extremely high and requires serious management efforts. Therefore, Arief acknowledged that one concrete action that can be taken is carrying tumblers to reduce plastic bottle waste.

“By carrying tumblers, residents can directly fill free drinking water from PAM JAYA Water Purifier stations available at several public transport hubs and public spaces. This is one concrete step we are taking. Of course, we must be healthy, economical, and reduce plastic waste,” he concluded.

The tumbler distribution campaign took place before sunset on Monday, 9 March 2026, at Bundaran Senayan Stop in front of Ratu Plaza in Central Jakarta. Several Pelita Jaya athletes, including Brandon Jawato, Russel Nyoo, and Reza Guntara, attended to distribute tumblers to the public.

PAM JAYA noted that with the PAM JAYA Water Purifier stations located at seven Transjakarta stops, over 600,000 litres of water have been consumed by Jakarta residents in the past year (January 2025 – January 2026). When converted to the number of plastic bottles, approximately 1.3 million plastic bottles have been saved. This represents a remarkable step in environmental preservation through reduced plastic bottle consumption.

PAM JAYA has partnered with Transjakarta to install PAM JAYA Water Purifier units at several stops, such as those at Bundaran Senayan Stop and CSW Kebayoran Baru Stop. Additionally, PAM JAYA Water Purifier stations have been installed in several public areas, including Fatahillah Mosque and Jakarta City Hall.

Pelita Jaya athlete Brandon Jawato acknowledged that the campaign is highly positive and expressed his pleasure in directly participating in distributing tumblers to Jakarta residents. The healthy lifestyle campaign involving carrying tumblers during daily activities must become a new habit for the capital’s residents, particularly young people.

“I personally always carry a tumbler when training or playing basketball matches. The tumbler has become an essential item that I must carry at all times. I also want young Jakartans to carry tumblers wherever they go,” explained Brandon.

The 1993-born athlete stated that the tumbler-carrying campaign must continue in order to become a cultural practice among Jakarta’s population. PAM JAYA, as Jakarta’s piped water drinking company, needs to be a driver of this culture.

“As young people, we need to have a high level of environmental awareness. And this tumbler-carrying movement must become a culture for us. We must become tumbler warriors,” he concluded.

Moving forward, the synergy between PAM JAYA and Pelita Jaya will continue to conduct positive initiatives for the community.
