PAM billing and meter readers

From Warta Kota

We are customers of Jakarta drinking water company (PAM) living in Johar Baru village, Central Jakarta. In the past year, the monthly payment of PAM drinking water supply has amounted to hundreds of thousands of rupiah. It is too much as we, a family with two children, use PAM's water only for washing clothes, bathing and cooking.

We had never checked the condition of our water meter until a PAM dyke broke last month causing the disruption of water supplies for a week. We were prompted to check our water meter as PAM Jaya's claim soared from Rp 70,000 to Rp 115,000. We found out that the water meter did not function and was badly rusted. We observed this instrument had failed to function for a long time.

Therefore, we strongly suspect that PAM Jaya's meter controllers have written down the tariff without seeing the water meter. It is really unfair and harmful to customers. When a controller came recently we asked him to show us what he had noted so far, he tried to argue defensively and became emotional, revealing his behavior as a hoodlum.

Therefore, we ask PAM Jaya to be more responsible for the malfunctioning of its water meters and to urge this company to assign more polite water meter readers in future.
