Palu River escapes banks

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Two houses were swept away when the Palu River overflowed earlier this week, the Antara news agency reported.

The water reached two meters deep in many parts of town after two days of incessant rain on Tuesday.

Hundreds of houses in five subdistricts on both sides of the river were inundated with water.

The worst affected subdistricts were Tatura, Lolu and Besus, all to the east of the river, and Baru and Ujuna, which are west of the river.

There were no casualties reported. (emb)
