The death toll from the magnitude 6.7 earthquake centred in Palu, Central Sulawesi, has risen to three, with all victims originating from Sigi Regency. A total of 108 residents in Sigi have also been reported injured.
“So there are three people who have died. Previously, only one was recorded, then two additional victims were included in the updated report,” said Ahmad Yani, Head of the Disaster Division at the Sigi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), to reporters on Thursday (18/6/2026).
Ahmad disclosed that the first additional victim was a resident of Berdikari Village, Palolo District, Sigi Regency. The victim had a history of illness and suffered a heart attack after falling during the earthquake.
“The victim was taken to the Bala Keselamatan Hospital. Because the data collection process at that time was not yet complete, they were not included in the initial report,” he said.
The other victim came from Kamarora A Village, Nokilalaki District, Sigi, after being rushed to Torabelo Hospital in Sigi. The victim sustained an impact to the abdomen when the earthquake shook the area.
“Based on information from local health workers, the deceased also had a history of a tumour. The impact he experienced is suspected to have worsened his health condition,” Ahmad added.
The Sigi BPBD also reported additional building damage from the earthquake based on data collected up to Thursday (18/6) at 11:00 Central Indonesian Time. According to the report, a total of 2,109 families or 6,412 individuals were affected by the earthquake in Sigi.
