Palu Earthquake Impact: Buildings Damaged, Hospital Patients Evacuated
Patients were evacuated to the courtyard of Anutapura Hospital in Palu, Central Sulawesi, after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook the region on Tuesday (16/6/2026) at 11.27 WITA. The quake, with a depth of 10 kilometres and centred on land 42 kilometres southeast of Palu City, did not trigger a tsunami but caused panic among residents. In addition to prompting the evacuation of patients and health workers, the earthquake caused damage to a number of buildings and infrastructure in Palu City and surrounding areas. Authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the tremor.
