The Palu City Government, through the Palu City Environmental Agency (DLH), has officially issued Circular No. XX/500.9.14.2/V/Kadis DLH regarding the implementation of plastic-free Kurban for the 1447 Hijriah/2026 Gregorian Eid al-Adha. The circular instructs all Kurban committees in Palu City to refrain from using single-use plastic bags during the distribution of sacrificial meat to the public. As alternatives, residents and committees are encouraged to use eco-friendly containers such as banana leaves, bamboo baskets (besek), traditional woven containers (binga), or other reusable containers. Residents are also advised to bring their own containers when collecting the meat. This initiative forms part of Palu City Government’s efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote eco-living and clean environments during Eid al-Adha. Palu City Environmental Agency Secretary Ibnu Mundzir confirmed that coordination has been carried out down to the village level to ensure the circular is effectively implemented on the ground. “We have coordinated with village-level authorities to report on Kurban activities in their respective areas,” he said in Palu on Monday (25 May). This coordination is to ensure the circular is implemented optimally in line with Palu City Government directives. “Each village head and sub-district head is already informing mosques and places of worship about this directive, and we expect villages to submit reports on the circular’s implementation,” he added. He also noted that several parties are assisting in socialising the initiative to ensure widespread adoption of eco-friendly containers during Eid al-Adha. “We hope this becomes a sustained practice,” he added. Regular monitoring will involve the Satpol PP, Agriculture Department, and DLH. The Palu City Government, through DLH, hopes the directive will be fully implemented by the public to support the plastic-free movement and protect environmental sustainability and public health from diseases linked to waste accumulation.
