Palmerah Station Paralysed! KRL Passengers Overflow, Wandering for an Hour
JAKARTA — Passengers on the commuter rail (KRL) at Palmerah Station in West Jakarta overflowed on Monday evening (4/5/2026). Kompas.com observations at 20:23 WIB showed prospective KRL passengers spilling over to the pedestrian overpass (JPO) and areas outside the entry gates. Dozens of people were sitting on stairs and in corners of the station. Some passengers were seen switching to alternative transport by ordering online motorcycles, though they were not easy to obtain. Rahmat (35), one of the prospective KRL passengers, said he had been waiting at the station for an hour. He was trying to get home to his house in Pondok Ranji. “Since 19:00 WIB, I’ve been trying to order an online motorcycle, but no one takes it. Once I get one, its position is in Koja (North Jakarta),” Rahmat said. Another prospective passenger, Putri, said she received information that the KRL disruption was caused by flooding and lightning strikes. Because there was no certainty when the journey would return to normal, she planned to ask her husband, who was in BSD, to pick her up. “If it still doesn’t run later, I’ll ask my husband to pick me up. He’s in BSD, by car,” Putri said.
