Jakarta (ANTARA) - PTPN IV PalmCo, a subholding of PTPN III (Persero), is strengthening its occupational health and safety (OHS) culture to create a safe, productive, and sustainable operational environment.

“For PalmCo, the safety and health of all company personnel is the highest priority and is non-negotiable,” said PalmCo Director Jatmiko K Santosa at the closing of the 2026 National Occupational Health and Safety Month commemoration series in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that during the National OHS Month commemoration series, the company is committed to continuously strengthening a safe and sustainable working ecosystem.

The company was previously appointed by the Riau Provincial Government as the host for the provincial-level National OHS Month Peak Ceremony.

Jatmiko said the company’s appointment as host in one of Indonesia’s largest palm oil-producing provinces was not merely ceremonial. It represents the company’s national commitment to continuously evaluate, innovate, and accelerate a safe working culture across all of PalmCo’s operational areas from upstream to downstream.

As tangible evidence of this consistent oversight, the company successfully recorded more than 23 million safe working hours without a fatal accident during the most recent months of operations up to January 2026.

He noted that the achievement of more than 23 million safe working hours was the result of strict OHS system compliance.

“However, we recognise that the journey towards absolute zero accidents requires relentless consistency and continuous improvement,” said Jatmiko.

Complementing this regional support, Jatmiko explained that going forward, the company has prepared a number of mitigation strategies focused on preventive and proactive measures at the national level.

These strategies include optimising real-time digital monitoring of potential hazards across all plantations and factories, enhancing human resource certification and capacity, and tightening Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in high-risk areas.

“So that the zero-accident principle truly takes root and becomes the operational character of PTPN IV PalmCo across the entire nation,” said Jatmiko.

This commitment and cross-sector synergy was clearly reflected in the Riau OHS Month peak ceremony held at the PTPN IV Regional III Region Office in Pekanbaru.

The event, attended by more than 600 participants, was led directly by Riau Provincial Secretary Syahrial Abdi and attended by regional leadership forum members and representatives from various company leaders.

In his address, Riau Provincial Secretary Syahrial Abdi affirmed that workplace safety is the primary foundation for sustainability.

“Occupational health and safety is not merely an administrative obligation, but a shared necessity to protect human resources and maintain development sustainability,” Syahrial emphasised.

Nevertheless, Syahrial stressed that future industry dynamics require strong collaboration between the government, business sector, and workers to build a professional and reliable OHS ecosystem.

Meanwhile, PTPN IV Regional III Region Head Bambang Budi Santoso affirmed his team’s readiness at the operational level to continue ensuring that safety policies from headquarters are properly implemented in the field.

He believes that workforce protection is directly proportional to increased company productivity.

“A safe and healthy working environment will drive more optimal and sustainable performance,” said Bambang.
