Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) IV PalmCo is preparing young talent as part of the company’s strategy to face increasingly complex global palm oil industry dynamics, ranging from commodity price fluctuations and sustainability demands to the need for greater operational efficiency.

PTPN IV PalmCo President Director Jatmiko K Santosa said human resource development is a key factor in maintaining competitiveness whilst ensuring the sustainability of the company’s performance amid industry change.

“In terms of return on assets, we are number two in the world. That is our position today. On conservation and sustainability, our ranking is also number two in the world. But then we thought, if that is the case, what next? That is not enough — it is far from enough,” he said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

He made the remarks while delivering a briefing at the Next Gen Leaders Camp 2026 event in Bogor.

According to him, these achievements must not make the company complacent. On the contrary, PalmCo needs to accelerate cadre development so that it has a successor generation capable of maintaining stability whilst driving the company’s growth.

He explained that the palm oil industry’s future challenges are expected to grow, whether due to commodity price fluctuations, rising global market demands for environmental governance, or the need to improve operational efficiency.

Therefore, the company is championing continuous improvement supported by innovation across all its lines, including through human resource capacity development.

According to him, pressure is part of the process of forming character and leadership.

“To change, often the easiest way is through pressure. Nothing good is born without pressure. Take copper and diamond — which faces the greater pressure? A small diamond can be very expensive because it was formed by thousands of degrees of heat and pressure,” he said.

Furthermore, he encouraged PalmCo’s young talent to be bold in making decisions and executing business strategies whilst still applying risk management and the principle of prudence.

“Does innovation mean recklessness? No. That is what we call calculated risk. So if we want to leap, as long as our hearts are pure for the people, we leap. But it must be calculated — leap, but don’t fall; we must not be careless,” said Jatmiko.

He added that the company’s current positive performance has also raised stakeholder expectations, so the company is not only required to generate profits but also to carry out strategic responsibilities in supporting the national economy.

“Our success today does not mean we are appreciated and then left to live in peace. No. In fact, we are now regarded and expected to be the driving force of the national palm oil sector,” he said.

He noted that the Next Gen Leaders Camp 2026 programme, held on 16–18 July 2026, forms part of preparations for the company’s leadership succession.

The event was attended by selected young talent from all of the company’s regions, as an effort to strengthen the capacity of future company leaders facing industry challenges ahead.

Previously, PTPN IV PalmCo recorded a net profit of Rp7.08 trillion for the 2025 financial year based on audited financial statements, an increase of 90.3 per cent compared to the previous year’s net profit of Rp3.72 trillion.

The improved performance was supported by increased crude palm oil (CPO) production, operational efficiency, and strengthened business fundamentals amid global economic challenges and market volatility.

The company stated it will continue to strengthen operational efficiency, risk management, and human resource development in order to sustain its performance whilst enhancing the competitiveness of the national palm oil industry.
