PalmCo Plants 50,000 Tree Seedlings to Safeguard Environmental Sustainability
Jakarta - Holding perkebunan PTPN III (Persero), through its subholding PTPN IV PalmCo, has planted 50,000 tree seedlings in various operational areas as a concrete step to safeguard environmental sustainability while strengthening the balance between business activities and the preservation of natural ecosystems.
PTPN IV PalmCo’s President Director, Jatmiko K Santosa, stated that the tree-planting action, themed “One Man One Tree,” is targeted to be carried out across all levels of the organisation this year, also in commemoration of Earth Day 2026.
“The company targets the planting of 50,000 trees throughout this year, spread across various operational areas from Aceh to Kalimantan,” Jatmiko said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He explained that this step is part of the company’s efforts to maintain the balance between business activities and environmental preservation, while also strengthening the implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
He added that the programme is designed not merely as a symbolic gesture, but as a collective movement involving all employees down to the smallest unit level.
“The One Man One Tree programme is a concrete step to ensure that the earth remains a pillar of life. What we do today will determine sustainability in the future,” Jatmiko said.
He noted that the target of 50,000 trees in 2026 reflects continuity and significant improvement from previous years.
In 2024, PalmCo recorded the planting of 8,750 trees, increasing to 17,500 trees in 2025, so that the total up to this year, the company aims for more than 76,000 trees planted in various operational areas of the company in Indonesia.
According to Jatmiko, this increase demonstrates the company’s consistency and escalation of commitment to supporting ecosystem recovery.
He added that the presence of the board of directors and all regional management in the field aims to ensure the programme runs effectively and sustainably.
In addition to the environmental aspect, this programme also relates to efforts to maintain PalmCo’s ESG performance at the global level. Currently, the company is said to be ranked second in the world for the agriculture category.
“Our focus is on maintaining high conservation value (HCV) areas and other critical areas to keep them well-managed,” Jatmiko said.
The implementation of the tree-planting programme is carried out simultaneously in seven operational regions of PalmCo, with an approach tailored to the ecological conditions of each area.
In West Kalimantan, for example, the planting is focused on areas vulnerable to land degradation.
Ike Septiani, an employee of PTPN IV Regional V, said that direct employee involvement fosters a personal sense of responsibility towards the environment.
“In Kalimantan, strong vegetation is needed to maintain soil structure so it does not easily degrade. This is important so that plantation operations remain in harmony with natural conditions,” she said.
Meanwhile, in Riau, conservation efforts are directed towards protecting aquatic ecosystems.
Candra Syahroni from PTPN IV Regional III mentioned that planting is carried out along riverbanks to prevent erosion and maintain water quality.
“Planting along river flows is a priority. We hope this step will also motivate surrounding communities to help preserve the environment,” Candra said.
Through this movement involving thousands of employees, PalmCo seeks to position sustainability issues as an integral part of the company’s operations. The Earth Day commemoration does not stop at ceremonies, but becomes a momentum to expand real impacts for the environment.
