Palm oil output increasing

SINGAPORE (Reuter): World palm oil output is expected to rise by 900,000 tons to a record 16.9 million tons in calendar year 1997 versus 1996, Thomas Mielke, editor of industry newsletter Oilworld said yesterday.

He forecast calendar 1996 Malaysian palm oil production at 8.05 million tons, up 200,000 tons from 1995.

Mielke projected Indonesian palm oil output at 4.65 million tons this year compared with 4.2 million tons in calendar year 1995.

He was speaking at an industry conference in Singapore.
