Palm oil mill opens

JAKARTA (JP): A palm oil mill owned by PT Perkebunan Mitra Ogan, with a capacity of 60 tons of fresh fruit bunches an hour, was inaugurated by Governor of South Sumatra Ramly Hasan Basri in the Oku regency on Tuesday.

Perkebunan Mitra's president H. Siswanto said that the Rp 13 billion (US$5.8 million) factory is supported by 12,000 hectares of oil palm estate.

Governor Hasan said the new mill brought to eight the total number of palm oil factories in the province. They have a combined capacity of 240 tons an hour.

He was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying that S. Sumatra had a total of 172,000 hectares of oil palm plantations.(10)
